Market Ministries Announces 25th
Anniversary Plans
At the recent annual meeting of Market Ministries,
Inc., plans to celebrate the agency’s 25th
anniversary were announced. A celebration/fundraising
event will be held June 28, 2008 at the Wamsutta Club
and the agency is now actively soliciting sponsorships
for this event. Funds raised for this anniversary
celebration will ensure that the agency’s programs are
sustained well into the future and some of the programs,
such as transitional housing, will be allowed to expand
to meet the ever-increasing need.
Officers re-elected at this meeting
were President David Filipek, Treasurer Michele Pratt,
and Clerk Nancy Carignan. Special recognition was given
to retiring Board member and one of the original
founders, Reverend Philip Douglas, who was awarded
President Emeritus status for his tireless and humble
service. The building housing the agency’s
administrative offices will also be named The Reverend
Philip Douglas Administration Building in his honor.
During the year the agency’s Board
completed its long range planning initiative, creating a
blueprint for the future of the agency in accordance
with its mission to serve the homeless and hungry of
Greater New Bedford with food, shelter and compassionate
support. Sister Rosellen Gallogly, RSM, has served as
Executive Director of Market Ministries, Inc. since its
inception, and “Sister Rose” will also be celebrating 60
years as a Sister of Mercy during 2008. Board President
Filipek stated that over ONE MILLION meals have been
served and over THREE HUNDRED THOUSAND beds have been
made during the 25 year history of the agency.
